Phlebotomist

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Phlebotomist

Under the supervision of the onsite Physician, the Phlebotomist will perform phlebotomy procedures and assist with routine medical laboratory testing to support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Hours are M-F 8:30am-5:30pm. Salary Range: $18-$20 per hour.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect blood samples from patients of all ages, including infants, children, and adults, using venipuncture, finger sticks, or heel sticks. 
  • Properly label collected specimens, ensuring accurate identification and logging details in a tracking system. 
  • Set up, clean, and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies; restock supplies as needed and sterilize equipment between uses. 
  • Greet patients, explain procedures, and help alleviate any anxiety they may feel about the blood-drawing process. 
  • Follow health and safety protocols, including wearing protective gear, sanitizing equipment, and disposing of biohazard waste according to regulations. 
  • Accurately document procedures and submit specimens for analysis, accountable for recording and relaying results to providers verbally, in writing, and electronically. 
  • Perform point of care laboratory testing including, but not limited to, urinalysis/microalbumin dipsticks, pregnancy tests, respiratory panels (COVID, Influenza, Strep, RSV) STI panels (HIV, Syphilis, Trichomonas) and A1C’s.  
  • Operate, adjust, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment and scientific instruments per Laboratory policies and procedures. 
  • Track and Record lab and phlebotomy inventory. 
  • Comply with OSHA-related guidelines and regulations for infection prevention and control. 
  • Serve as the secondary vaccine coordinator, supporting and providing assistant to the primary vaccine coordinator.

  • Proficiency in venipuncture and other blood collection techniques. 
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, applications, tests, safety, and infection control policies and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum High school diploma or equivalent required  
  • Medical laboratory experience preferred 
  • Phlebotomy (CPT) Certification required 

Conditions of Employment:

  1. US citizenship is required.
  2. Incumbents of this position will be subject to a background investigation commensurate with the risk and sensitivity level of the position.
  3. Successful completion of drug screening required.
  4. TB Test Required
